Michael and Rosemary Wakefield travelled by train to Hythe, then had a choice of cakes and fruit followed by the cyclist cup of tea! After lunch they completed their ride by visiting Ivychurch, Brookland, Appledore, Snargate, Brenzett and finally SSPeter and Paul Newchurch for more afternoon tea and cake!
Then they headed for St Mary,s Bay ,Burmarsh , Dymchurch, and on to New Romney via St Marys in the Marsh. St Nicholas Church, New Romney always prepare sausage rolls etc.
Their tour of Romney Marsh took in 23 churches and they cycled 46 miles. A friendly welcome was had at most churches visited. They were delighted to be so well sponsored by St Johns Hill URC.
The local Sevenoaks contingent, consisting of Mike Driver (and a recently purchased bike), took in all the town churches, then those in Riverhead, Otford and Seal.
This included Seal St Lawrence – see photo below to prove it was visited!
The welcome in Seal was wonderful. The above right photo shows all the helpers, ladies in the majority, who not only kept smiling but had laid on a sumptuous tea!
We look forward to the event next year!
